About Us

What is Expa?

Peliosuuskunta Expa – Jyväskylä Game Industry Hub is a co-operative game company that’s established an open community for everyone interested in game industry, game business and game development.

 

Our goal is to advance the game industry in Jyväskylä and Central Finland. Providing a network for the active game developer scene, connecting individual game developers and game companies, and bringing together game industry workers, talents, students, researchers, lecturers, entrepreneurs, etc.

 

Expa organizes the IGDA Jyväskylä monthly events which allows all kinds of professionals to network, discuss, and promote new business.

Peliosuuskunta Expa is also the operator of Digi & Game Center – The multiple times Awarded Co-Development Ecosystem in the Heart of Finland in Tourula, Jyväskylä. Est 2020.

2012
Expa Tower

Peliosuuskunta Expa is established in 12-12-2012.
An idea for a coworking space is born where game industry people, companies and education would be in the same space.

2014
Game Bakery

The first attempt to make a coworking space for the game industry with the name "Game Bakery/Peli leipomo" - it used the idea of Game Brewery accelerator concept.

DID NOT HAPPEN!

2014-2015
Organising entrepreneurship and gaming events

Funded project between Jyväskylä Entrepreneurship Society ry and Peliosuuskunta Expa (funded by the Union of Central Finland).

2017
The AIKO Research

Scalable business opportunities on the game industry in Central Finland (funded by the Union of Central Finland).
There was a need of coworking premises, where game and digital companies & also education that would accelerate each other to success together.

The concept of Digi & Game Center is born!

2019-2020
The follow-up research

The Digi & Game Center is launched as part of the sustainable Digi & Game Ecosystem project.
The project was funded by the Regional council of Central Finland from European Regional Development Fund, Business Jyväskylä and Fingersoft.

2020
Game Business Booster (Business Finland)

On February 8th 2020 (just over a month after the official opening of Digi & Game Center), a pilot event was organized and it even gathered people from abroad to make game business in Jyväskylä, Finland.
